Upcoming

5/30 Memorial Day Week

We finished the stones last week, so this Memorial Day week, we will pause to remember.  See the video tribue on the home page.

6/6 Mulch, weeds, and new trees

On Saturday, we will do some very light weeding and then spread mulch in the gardens and around trees & shrubs.  On Wednesday the 10th, Merrifield will arrive with two new trees and a replacement laurel.

This will finish the Springtime in the Cemetery events.  But we have a summer planned, so come join in!

6/13 Straightening

Using steel pry bars, 2×4 levers, and muscle, we will lift the leaning stones while others flick stone dust and leveling sand into the opening…watch your fingers!

All Summer

Several times a week, monitor soil moisture and water as needed to keep all our trees, shrubs, and flowers alive.

We have a long list of summer projects, so stay tuned to this channel for coming events!

Completed

5/30 Memorial Day Week

We finished the stones last week, so this Memorial Day week, we will pause to remember.  See the video tribue on the home page.

5/23 Cleaning

We were fortunate the rains came and soaked into the stone.  Then lightly sprayed D/2 biological cleaner solution on all surfaces using a backpack sprayer.  A great day for Carl and me.

5/16 Survey the Stones

There are over a thousand gravesites and over 600 graves in our cemetery.  Using a list from our Cemetery Management System, we will document the condition of each stone: material, size, status, and flags for cleaning and straightening.

5/9 Flowers, Pumpkins & Worms!

Come help us plant our pumpkin seedlings and then release over 1,000 European Nightcrawler worms in the pumpkin patch.  The soil at the back of the cemetery is like concrete, and the worms will convert the soil into a lacy layer of nutrients perfect for our pumpkins.  We also have hundreds of flowers eager to be in real soil under real sun.  Weather permitting, if too cold, this will slip to next week.

5/2 Pumpkin Patch Revitalization

We spread peat most, along with garden soil & fertilizer, in the pumpkin patch, and tilled it into the soil with a Mantis tiller.

4/25 Install Rank Math SEO and Content AI

Install and configure the Rank Math SEO WordPress plugin on our website at https://thecolumbarium.org, integrating it with our DIVI theme and page builder.  We also gathered 121 long-tail keywords that will provide the focus for our stories.

4/18 Fertilizer & Pumpkin Patch Fence

We will spread a general fertilizer around the trees & shrubs and on the grass sod areas.  We will repair the pumpkin patch deer fence that was damaged by winter storms.

5/2 Mulch

We have hundreds of square yards of natural mulch to spread in the gardens and pumpkin patch area.  The secret that makes it easy is to slice the bags in half so they are light to carry and empty.  Plus, we have our DR Power Wagon to move the bags! Drivers wanted!

5/4 Welcome the Angels!

The Content AI, integrated with our Math Rank SEO package, helps us generate a steady stream of high-quality content for the website, Facebook, YouTube, and X.  The Angels ministry team will be a permanent part of the Chapel Cemetery Crew.  They will author the AI-generated content, working directly on the https://thecolumbarium.org website and our new accounts at Facebook, YouTube, and X.

5/23 Survey the Cemetery Stones

There are over a thousand gravesites and over 600 graves in our cemetery.  Using a list from our Cemetery Management System, we will document the condition of each stone: material, size, status, and flags for cleaning and straightening.

6/6 Straightening

Using steel pry bars, 2×4 levers, and muscle, we will lift the leaning stones while others flick stone dust and leveling sand into the opening…watch your fingers!

6/13 More Straightening

If all backs and fingers are still in good shape, we will continue with more stones.  If any remain, due to weight or other issues, the balance will be fixed by one of our commercial contractors.

All Summer

Several times a week, monitor soil moisture and water as needed to keep all our trees, shrubs, and flowers alive.

4/11: Trees & Shrubs plus Easter Planting

Starting on Saturday, 4/11, while the buds are still on the trees, we will do some light trimming to help shape the trees and remove winter-damaged leaves from our shrubs.  We will also plant the many gifted plants and flowers from our Easter Service.
